How far is it from Frankfurt to us?
Our location at Steinstraße 16 in Darmstadt is around 30 kilometers south of Frankfurt. Depending on where you start and current traffic, you'll reach us in 25 to 40 minutes — whether you're coming from central Frankfurt, Sachsenhausen, Niederrad, or Nordend.
Free parking is available directly at our premises — either on the street or in our courtyard. No parking fees, no parking garage hassle, no switching to public transport. This makes picking up and returning your roof box as straightforward as possible.
During rush hour (7–9 AM and 4–7 PM on weekdays), the A5 southbound tends to congest. If you're flexible with your timing, we recommend scheduling for late morning or after 7 PM — you'll then reach us in a relaxed 25 minutes.
Getting here in detail
There are two well-maintained routes from the greater Frankfurt area to us — which one works best depends on traffic and your starting point:
Route 1 — Via the A5 (fastest option) From the Frankfurter Kreuz interchange heading towards Basel, take exit 25 (Weiterstadt) towards Darmstadt Nord. This is the shortest route for customers from Frankfurt — you bypass the Darmstadt city center entirely and reach us in Arheilgen from the north.
Route 2 — Via the B3 (stress-free alternative) Around 10 minutes longer, but far calmer during rush hour. Particularly recommended if you're coming from southern Frankfurt or Sachsenhausen, or if you've had enough of the regular congestion on the A5.
From Offenbach: Take the A3 briefly towards Würzburg, then switch to the A5 and exit at Langen / Egelsbach heading towards Darmstadt. Drive time: approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Who benefits from renting?
Renting a roof box makes particular sense if you only need the extra cargo space for one to three trips a year. A new Thule box costs several hundred euros and spends most of the year taking up space in your garage or basement. With us, you pay only for the days you actually use it — and get access to our full Thule range without the upfront investment.
Typical renting customers from Frankfurt: families heading on ski or beach holidays, two-person households planning long road trips, and travelers with rental cars from Frankfurt Airport who need additional storage for a single trip.
Which Frankfurt neighborhoods do our customers come from?
Our customers from Frankfurt reach us from every neighborhood in 25 to 45 minutes:
- Sachsenhausen, Niederrad, airport area: approx. 25–30 minutes via A5 southbound
- City center, Westend, Bockenheim: approx. 30–35 minutes via A5 or B3
- Nordend, Bornheim, Ostend: approx. 35–40 minutes via A5 or A661 onto A5
- Höchst, Griesheim: approx. 35–40 minutes via A648 onto A5
- Riederwald, Fechenheim: approx. 40 minutes
When you call or email us, feel free to mention your neighborhood. We'll recommend the optimal route and a pickup time outside rush hour. A favorite among our Frankfurt customers: picking up early on Saturday morning and returning on Sunday evening after the weekend trip.
Popular travel destinations from Frankfurt
Frankfurt Airport is the starting point for long-haul travel — but for a European road trip with your own car or the family SUV, Darmstadt makes an ideal gear pickup on your way south. Our customers from Frankfurt most frequently head to:
- The Alps (Austria, Switzerland, South Tyrol, Bavaria): Our Thule Motion XT XL with 500 liters safely accommodates skis, ski boots, and extra family luggage — perfect for ski holidays.
- The Adriatic coast (Italy, Croatia, Slovenia): For beach holidays we recommend the Motion XT L with 450 liters — enough room for camping gear, beach toys, and additional luggage.
- The North Sea coast (Netherlands, Denmark, northern Germany): Transport bikes in parallel using our Thule bike rack, leaving the roof box free for luggage and supplies.
- Southern France or Spain: Long-distance driving with a full load — here you'll benefit from the aerodynamic shape of Thule roof boxes and save noticeably on fuel.
Not sure which size fits your travel destination? Give us a call — we'll advise you free of charge and recommend the right roof box for your vehicle, destination, and number of passengers.
