Bike carriers for the tow hitch
For the tow hitch we have several bike carriers for 2, 3 or 4 bikes. Many of them are also suitable for e-bikes. What matters most is the number and the weight of the bikes.
Thule EasyFold XT 2
For 2 bikes · e-bikes too
The EasyFold XT 2 is one of our most rented bike carriers. It folds up completely and is designed for two bikes with a combined weight of up to 60 kg.

Uebler I21Z 90
For 2 bikes · wide tilt angle
The Uebler I21Z 90 is worth a look if the tailgate does not open far enough with an ordinary bike carrier. This one tilts by up to 90°.

Thule EasyFold XT 3

The larger version of the EasyFold, for up to three bikes. This one folds up and tilts as well.

Thule Epos
For up to 3 bikes
On the Epos the bikes are held by flexible arms. That makes it suitable for frame shapes which are harder to secure on conventional carriers.

With an extension the Velo Compact takes up to four bikes. Here too, what matters is the actual combined weight of the bikes.

No tow hitch?
You can also carry bikes on the roof. For that we rent out the Thule ProRide, one bike per carrier.
A matching set of roof bars is needed as well. If you don’t have any, you can add them to your booking. We put together the right bars for your car and fit them when you collect.
The Thule ProRide may be loaded with 20 kg at most. Please check the actual weight of your bike before booking.
Which bike carrier fits?
In most cases the choice is quickly made:
- 2 bikes — Thule EasyFold XT 2 or Uebler I21Z 90
- 3 bikes — Thule EasyFold XT 3 or Thule Epos
- 4 bikes — Thule Velo Compact with the extension
- No tow hitch — Thule ProRide for carrying bikes on the roof
With e-bikes you should also keep an eye on the combined weight. What counts is the carrier’s maximum payload and your car’s permitted tow-ball load.

The rental price depends on the rental period, the mounting type and the number of bikes.

Carriers with the same bike capacity cost the same, whichever model you pick.
E-bikes: mind the weight and the tow-ball load
With e-bikes you should check the weight before booking. What counts is both the carrier’s maximum payload and your car’s permitted tow-ball load.
Our tow-hitch carriers may be loaded with 60 kg at most. Two e-bikes at 25 kg each come to 50 kg and stay within that limit. Three bikes at 25 kg each would be 75 kg and therefore too heavy.
The carrier’s own weight counts as well. A carrier weighing 20 kg with two e-bikes at 25 kg each puts 70 kg on the tow hitch.
Whether that combination is permitted for your car depends on its permitted tow-ball load.
What to know before booking
- The permitted tow-ball load is usually stated on the tow hitch itself, mostly on a sticker or stamped into it.
- Take the weight of the carrier and the bikes together into account.
- E-bike batteries have to be removed for transport.
- On the Thule ProRide the maximum load is 20 kg per bike.
- Tow-hitch carriers require a trailing number plate. You can add one to your booking.

We rent bike carriers for the tow hitch (1–4 bikes) and for the roof (1 bike per carrier). All models from Thule and Uebler, suitable for e-bikes up to 30 kg per bike — within a total payload of 60 kg, so two e-bikes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I transport my pedelec (e-bike) on the roof?
Transporting pedelecs on the vehicle roof is generally not possible, as roof-mounted bike carriers have a weight limit of 20 kg, and most pedelecs — even without the battery — are significantly heavier. Additionally, pedelecs have a different frame geometry and wider frames than conventional bicycles, which means secure attachment cannot be guaranteed. We therefore advise against transporting pedelecs with roof-mounted bike carriers.
Are my bikes protected against theft?
Both the bike carrier and the bicycles are secured with locks to prevent unauthorized access. We still recommend securing the bikes on the carrier with an additional lock. At the destination or when not in use, you should remove the bicycles from the carrier and store them in a secure location.
What should I consider when driving with bikes on the roof?
- Take the increased vehicle height into account – pay attention to low passages, parking garages and bridges, but also to trees in avenues
- Adapted driving style – crosswind sensitivity and the changed center of gravity can influence driving behavior.
- Regular safety check – Before every ride, check that the bikes are securely and correctly mounted.
- Consider fuel consumption – Higher air resistance can increase fuel consumption.
Can I still open the trunk?
Yes, all of our towbar bike carriers are tiltable, ensuring that you have easy access to the trunk even when bikes are mounted. For vehicles with particularly large tailgates, such as vans or minibuses, we recommend the Uebler I21 Z90. This carrier can tilt up to 90°, providing unrestricted access to the trunk.
Can I transport a children's bike on the roof?
Yes, it is possible to transport a children's bike on the roof, provided the following conditions are met:
- The bike must have a minimum size of 16 inches, as smaller bikes cannot be securely mounted.
- The vehicle's maximum roof load must not be exceeded.

Can I transport my carbon bike?
Yes, it is possible to transport a carbon bike on a bike rack, but special care must be taken to avoid damaging the delicate frame.
Which carriers are suitable for carbon bikes?
✔ Übler I21 Z90 and Thule Epos are already suitable for carbon frames as standard and enable safe transportation.
✔ For all other carriers, we recommend using the Thule Carbon Frame Protector, which reduces the pressure on the frame and offers additional protection and which you can add as an accessory when ordering.
How does the Thule Carbon Frame Protector work?

- Prevents crushing and damage to the surface.
