Rent a Roof Box for Whitsun and the May/June Holidays
May and June are the holiday months of the year in Germany: Ascension Day, Whitsun (Pentecost), and in many federal states Corpus Christi fall close together. With just one or two bridge days, they turn into long weekends or mini vacations – perfect for a short family trip. So the car doesn't overflow, rent a roof box, bike rack or rear box from us.
The relevant holidays in Hesse and nearby states
- 1 May (Labor Day) – nationwide
- Ascension Day – nationwide, always a Thursday. Classic bridge day: Friday off = four days vacation.
- Whit Monday – nationwide. Combined with the weekend, a long weekend; with Tuesday to Friday off, that becomes nine days.
- Corpus Christi – Hesse, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland. Another Thursday – same bridge-day logic as Ascension.
Exact dates vary each year, but the pattern holds: between early May and mid-June, these German states offer three chances for long weekends.
Why a roof box for a short trip?
For three to five vacation days, most families pack about as much as for two weeks – but without the option to do laundry on site. Weather is also often mixed: drizzle in the morning, sun in the afternoon. That means: rain jackets, warm layers, shorts, hiking shoes, and possibly bikes. A roof box or rear box turns this from cramped into comfortable.

- The Netherlands – beaches, national parks, the Veluwe region. Short drive, open border, no vignette.

Reminder: book early
Holiday and bridge-day weeks are, alongside summer and Christmas holidays, the third peak period in the rental business. Especially Ascension weekend and Whitsun are often pre-booked by March and April. If you inquire at the beginning of May for a Whitsun rental, medium sizes (450, 500 liters) are often already gone. Our tip: reserve at least six to eight weeks before pickup.
What to do with short-notice planning
If you're planning spontaneously and your preferred size is no longer available:
- Take one size smaller – often enough if you pack deliberately
- Book a combination: 300-liter roof box plus a tow-bar bike rack instead of a 500-liter box alone
- A rear box as alternative to a roof box: plenty for three to five days and easier to load
- Shift the pickup date: a day earlier or returning a day later often makes the difference
